Palestine, Mexico & Healing: Colette Ghunim on “Traces of Home” | Ep. 13

Chicago filmmaker Colette Ghunim joins PalTalk to talk about 'Traces of Home', her debut feature documentary about her family’s forced migrations from Palestine and Mexico.

Her father, Hosni, was displaced from Safad, Palestine, in 1948 at age four. Her mother, Iza, left Mexico City as a child. They raised Colette and her brother Ramsey in suburban Illinois, where much of that history went unspoken. Filmed over nine years, Traces of Home follows the family as they return to the homes they were forced to leave and face the grief passed down between generations.

We talk about intergenerational trauma, and what it means to find your way home as a first-generation Palestinian-Mexican-American.
